Skin marks like wrinkle lines and acne scars may be the first you thing you see in the mirror, but laser facial resurfacing by Dr. Ralston can help clear your mind—and your complexion. Read below to learn more about this skincare procedure.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?

Men and women whose face, mouth, eyes, or forehead have acne scars, wrinkle lines, or other similar marks. The procedure may not be effective on substantial acne or stretch marks. Also, very dark skin may not respond.

THE PROCEDURE

Laser facial resurfacing usually requires a topical or local anesthesia and sedation. In some cases, general anesthesia will be administered if the deep layers of the skin are being treated. In one type of laser resurfacing, the laser then moves uniformly over the surface of the skin, removing the outermost layers evenly. In another form of resurfacing, lasers create holes in the deeper layers of the skin. In this form, when the skin heals, the collagen contracts the holes toward each other, tightening your skin.

RECOVERY

After the procedure, the areas treated will be covered with a sterile dressing, which can be removed after a couple of days. You’ll want to clean the areas a few days a time, and then apply a healing ointment to help prevent scabs. The treated areas will likely be healed within one to three weeks.

RESULTS & BENEFITS

Blemishes, scars, wrinkles, or other undesired marks on the face will be minimized or erased, bringing skin closer to its pristine, original condition.
