Tired of pockets of fat that neither managed diet nor regular exercise can take care of? Liposuction by Dr. Ralston can remove these fat pockets, giving you a more streamlined appearance and matching the hard work you’ve already put into your weight loss.

Men and women who have stubborn pockets/areas of fat that are not responding to diet and exercise. Localized areas respond best. Liposuction is not, however, performed as a weight loss procedure.

A saline mixture used to minimize swelling, bruising, and pain is first injected into the area being treated. Then a narrow tube connected to a hose is inserted under the skin and passed back and forth through the area of excess fat between the skin and the muscle, breaking the fat down and passing it gradually through the tube. The tunnels created by the tube will create swelling and bruising, which should fade in between two weeks and a few months. Your doctor may choose to use a drainage tube after surgery to remove any excess saline solution or other fluid.

After a liposuction procedure, patients will wear a compression garment day and night for approximately four weeks. Exercise, house work, yard work, and similarly strenuous activity needs to be avoided for approximately six weeks. Patients may also experience some swelling, numbness, or bruising.

Liposuction will help remove specific pockets of fat, resulting in a more desired figure and appearance. Some weight is lost as the fat is removed, but the procedure is not performed as a substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise. In addition, for safety reasons, the amount of fat that can be removed is limited.
